Beliefs & Practices at MindRoots
Our past and relationships shape us, but they do not define us.
1.
Our experiences, environment, and early relationships shape who we are and how we think about the world. We believe in understanding your behavior by asking "what happened to you?" instead of simply questioning "what is wrong with you?” We believe that having awareness about your behaviors and emotions is the first step to healing.

Trauma-Informed Approach and Relational Awareness.
With a trauma-informed lens, we examine past relationships, childhood experiences, family dynamics, and life events that have influenced your thoughts, behaviors, and feelings. Becoming conscious of these aspects gives one the self-awareness and empowerment to move forward and grow from their experiences.
2.
The mind and body are connected.
Mental health is not confined to our mind and thoughts. The mind and body are inextricably connected. We consider the influence that mental health and stress have on the body, how physical illness can impact the brain, the role of the nervous system in overall wellness, and the influence of physical health habits and lifestyle on the mind and body.

Foundational Wellness and Nervous System Regulation.
We explore wellness practices that benefit both the mind and body. Through relaxation techniques such as breath work, meditation, visualization, etc. we help clients learn to regulate their nervous system for a more relaxed and balanced state. We also provide education on the importance of healthy foundations such as movement, sleep, nutrition, sunlight, and stress reduction which help support the nervous system and mind/body. Establishing healthy habits and routine is a crucial part of foundational wellness and empowers individuals to achieve optimal mind/body balance.
Everyone is capable of change.
3.
Through neuroplasticity, the brain's ability to adapt and form new connections, we can change our way of thinking, acting, and being. With the proper tools and insight, we have the ability to consciously choose new ways of responding. We can grow into the person we aspire to be.

Behavioral Therapies and Mindfulness.
We create individualized plans that incorporate concepts from science-backed therapeutic approaches, such as Mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectic Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Exposure and Response Prevention Therapy (ERP). These practices help clients rewire their thought patterns, behaviors, and responses to cultivate healthier ways of being.
